Growing Tips:
- Plant boxwoods in full sun (6+ hours) for the best foliage color and density. Afternoon shade is appreciated in summer.
- Boxwoods do not like wet feet and will not root properly in dense soil. Add organic matter to the soil and consider mounding the planting site to increase drainage.
- Boxwoods typically do not need regular fertilizing. Wood mulch provides enough nutrients as it breaks down, on top of helping to maintain even soil moisture and keeping the roots cool in the summer heat.
- While pruning Boxwoods isn’t necessary, a yearly shear will maintain a more formal appearance. Prune in late spring after new growth has emerged and avoid cutting into thick, mature stems. Dead or damaged foliage can be removed at any time.
