Lettuce

In Missouri, the seeds of leaf lettuce varieties can be sown as early as late January, as long as the soil is not frozen.  Consider planting lettuce in containers on your deck or patio to easily harvest and enjoy.

The varieties we grow are:

  • Bistro Salad Blend – A well flavored mix of lettuces with different leaf shapes, textures, and colors.  50-55 days to maturity.
  • Buttercrunch Bibb Lettuce – This popular variety is easy to grow and yields 4-5 inch, tender rosettes to harvest.  It is also an All-America Selections winner.  65 days to maturity.
  • Paris Island Cos Romaine – Dark green heads with a creamy white center reach 8-12 inches in length.  50-80 days to maturity.

Plants are available for purchase at Longfellow’s:

March 1 – April 15 for spring crops

August 1 – August 31 for fall crops

  • Bistro Salad Blend
