Okra
Okra prefers warmer weather to grow; plants are available for purchase in May and June. As the weather gets hotter through the summer, the pods will grow faster. Plants will need to be checked almost daily for pods as they mature; pods that become too large will be tough and stingy and are not as desirable to eat.
The varieties we grow are:
- Clemson Spineless – Produces lots of dark green, straight, spine free pods. The pods will grow up to 6-9 inches long fruit and are best when harvested at 3 inches. Plants will reach 3-4 feet tall. 56 days to maturity.
- Jambalaya – Smaller, compact plants produce lots of dark green, evenly shaped pods which reach 4-5 inches long. 50 days to maturity.
