Magnolia grandiflora 'Brackens Brown Beauty'
Southern Magnolia
This Southern Magnolia is a significant cultivar because it is reliably winter hardy in central Missouri. The evergreen leathery foliage is smooth and shiny on top with a reddish-brown fuzz underneath.
In late spring and sporadically throughout the summer, huge fragrant white blossoms open to perfume the entire garden.
- Fragrant, creamy-white flowers through summer
- Dark green leaves with brown velvety undersides
- Evergreen tree
Growing Tips:
Protect foliage in winter, especially when young. Use burlap windbreaks or spray foliage with Wilt-Pruf. See November tasks for more info about using anti-transpirants.
