Paeonia suffruticosa

Tree Peony

Long-lived, deciduous, woody shrubs native to China.  The mid to late spring blossoms of tree peonies are unrivaled in size, color and fragrance.  Though somewhat slow growing, a mature tree peony can have over fifty, 8-10’’ flowers and will bloom for about two weeks.  Tree peonies are deer resistant and fairly drought tolerant once established.

Available Varieties:

  • High Noon – Large, double yellow flowers
  • Red (Houki) – Huge, double red flowers
  • Pink (Yachiyotsubaki) – Medium-pink, semi-double to fully double flowers
  • Tree High Noon
  • Tree Red Houki
  • Tree Pink Yachiyotsubaki
Growing Tips:

Plant in well drained fertile soil with 5-6 hours of sun. Tree peonies bloom on ‘old wood’ and are not cut back in the fall.
