Tree Peony
Long-lived, deciduous, woody shrubs native to China. The mid to late spring blossoms of tree peonies are unrivaled in size, color and fragrance. Though somewhat slow growing, a mature tree peony can have over fifty, 8-10’’ flowers and will bloom for about two weeks. Tree peonies are deer resistant and fairly drought tolerant once established.
Available Varieties:
- High Noon – Large, double yellow flowers
- Red (Houki) – Huge, double red flowers
- Pink (Yachiyotsubaki) – Medium-pink, semi-double to fully double flowers
Growing Tips:
Plant in well drained fertile soil with 5-6 hours of sun. Tree peonies bloom on ‘old wood’ and are not cut back in the fall.
