Winterberry
Ilex verticillata

Winterberries are an unmistakable staple of the winter landscape. With fantastic sprays of brightly colored fruit, winterberries shine while other plants are going to sleep.

Winterberries are closely related to the evergreen hollies that most are familiar with. Like these hollies, winterberry plants are either male or female. Female plants bear the signature berries, while a male is required for pollination and fruit set. A male winterberry can pollinate multiple female shrubs and should be planted up to 50 feet away.

Featured winterberry varieties and their pollinizers:

  • Winter Red + Southern Gentleman
  • Magical Winter Jewel + Southern Gentleman
  • Winter Gold + Southern Gentleman
  • Little Goblin Red, Orange + Little Goblin Guy
  • Berry Poppins + Mr. Poppins
