Heuchera
Coral Bells
The brightly colored leaves of Heuchera make wonderful accents for the landscape, especially in shade gardens. Though Coral Bells can tolerate quite a bit of sun, they do best with some shade. Easy to grow.
Available Varieties:
- Black Out – Tight mounds of dark, almost black foliage, holds its dark leaf color throughout the summer, creamy flowers in midsummer, 6-8″ tall.
- Fire Alarm – Bright red foliage in spring and fall. Darker red in summer. 10-12″ tall. white flowers in summer.
- Forever Purple – Vibrant purple foliage with frilled ridges. Short purplish flowers in summer. 12″ tall. Slug resistant.
- Georgia Peach – Peachy orange in spring, turning rose in summer, matures to purple-rose. Leaves have a silver sheen. 14″ tall.
- Green Spice – Green leaves with silver overlay and purple veins. 10″ tall.
- Lava Lamp – New leaves are copper orange then age to coppery purple. Cream flowers early summer. 16″ tall.
- Marvelous Marble – New leaves are purple and then change to green with prominent purple veining. White flowers. 8″ tall.
- Palace Purple – Large purple-bronze maple leafed shaped foliage. White flowers in summer. 10″ tall.
- Plum Pudding – Silver and burgundy leaves with deep purple veins. Striking wine red flower stalks with light pink flowers. 8″ tall.
- Stainless Steel – Silver lobed leaves with green veins. Purple undersides compliment the silver. Pink buds open to white flowers. 10″ tall.
- Twist of Lime – Chartreuse, wavy leaves, one of the brightest yellow Heucheras. Ruffling becomes less pronounced as the foliage matures. Cream flowers in early summer. 10″ tall.
Growing Tips:
All types of Coral Bells need good drainage, especially in winter. The foliage is evergreen, so don’t cut back until spring.
